Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know to create a correct QR-bill.

What is a QR-bill?

The QR-bill is the standard Swiss payment slip. Since October 2022 it has fully replaced the old orange and red payment slips. It has a receipt on the left and a payment part with a QR code on the right. The payer scans the code with their banking app or pays at a post office counter.

IBAN or QR-IBAN: which one do I have?

Most accounts have a regular IBAN. A QR-IBAN is an extra account number that some banks issue to businesses for automatic payment matching. You can recognise it by digits 5 to 9, which are between 30000 and 31999. If you are not sure, use your normal IBAN.

Which reference should I use?

With a regular IBAN the reference is optional. A creditor reference (starting with "RF") helps you match payments to invoices, and this tool can create one from your invoice number. With a QR-IBAN a 27-digit QR reference is required. Some banks require a fixed customer number at the start, so check your bank's instructions.

Do I have to fill in the payer and the amount?

No. If you leave them empty, the slip shows empty boxes and the payer fills them in by hand. This is useful for donations or membership fees.

How do I print the QR-bill correctly?

Print at 100% size, not "fit to page", so the slip and QR code keep their exact dimensions. On plain paper, keep the cut lines with the scissors switched on. On paper with a perforated slip, switch them off. Use good print quality so the QR code scans reliably.

Is my data safe?

Yes. The slip and the PDF are created entirely in your browser. Your IBAN, addresses and amounts are never sent to a server. If you tick "Remember my details", they are stored only in this browser on this device, and you can delete them at any time.

Will my bank accept slips made with this tool?

The slips follow the official Swiss Payment Standards for the QR-bill. As with any new tool, test your first slip by scanning it with your own banking app before you send it.

Is it free?

Yes. It is free for private use and for businesses, with no signup.
